the first unfreedom day back in 2006. it had some good moments but was rather comprised by the ngo funding that lead to the usual nonsense of 3 people strong 'social movements' (declared such because of their obedience to the ngo) getting the same billing as mass movements... after this abahlali organised unfreedom day events on its own with less money and more autonomy.
The day before the two organisations protestested against the top down authoritarianism of the NGO dominated Social Movements' Indaba. The middle class left united to blame a white agitator who in fact only heard about the protest 4 days later and to call the movements criminals for the crime of refusing their authority...In this regard their behavior was exactly like that of the state. Exactly. It really was an astonishingly revealing set of events.
